Neons Nightmare: A Dungeon Crawler Cyberpunk Post-Apocalyptic RPG

Introducing Neons Nightmare, a cyberpunk light rpg in a post-apocalyptic, dungeon crawler-oriented mode.

Hello everyone,

Here is Neon's Nightmare, a unique cyberpunk post-apocalyptic role-playing game. Lately, I've been craving a cyberpunk dungeon crawler, and I realized that the offer wasn't as vast as I thought. Apart from the essential Cyberpunk Red or the lesser-known Carbon 2185, I haven't found much. Hence Neon's Nightmare, a minimalist, cyberpunk, post-apocalyptic game focused on dungeon crawling.

In 20XX, the city is devastated, mutants swarm everywhere on the surface, and the few survivors hide in barricaded places. The rules are simple and fast. Character creation takes only a few minutes. You will be Scavengers, exploring ruins, fighting mutants, and seeking vital resources.

What makes Neon's Nightmare different? The cyberpunk post-apocalyptic atmosphere, an ultra-fast scenario creation system with dungeons generated in the blink of an eye. No long preparations, just pure and intense action. Eventually, an endgame scenario with tracks to finish the game.

1. The World Atmosphere of Neon's Nightmare

The universe of Neon's Nightmare is brutal and unforgiving. It's a post-apocalyptic world where civilization has collapsed. The city is a field of ruins, buildings are concrete and steel carcasses. Mutants roam everywhere, creatures born of radiation and disease. They hunt down the reckless who dare to venture on the surface.

The inspiration comes from an urban Mad Max. I drew from post-apocalyptic movies and video games, dystopian novels, and science fiction comics. The atmosphere is dark and desperate. Every day is a struggle for survival. Resources are scarce, dangers are ubiquitous. It's a world where every decision matters, where every mistake can be fatal. You will have to navigate through this chaos, face mutants, and explore ruins to find what it takes to survive. Welcome to Neon's Nightmare, a world where survival is a matter of cunning, courage, and luck.

2. How to Play?

In Neon's Nightmare, everything is designed to quickly immerse you in action.

  • Minimalist and effective rules: Each skill is represented by a die ranging from d6 to d12. If you roll a 4 or higher, it's a success. If you roll an 8 or higher, it's a double success, allowing you to accomplish even more impressive feats. It's simple, direct, and easy to understand, perfect for maintaining the game's frantic pace.
  • Quick character creation: Character creation takes only five minutes. You start by choosing from several character classes, each with its own skills and advantages. You can be a Fighter, specialized in weapons and close combat. A Scout, agile and discreet, perfect for reconnaissance missions. A Logistician, master of efficiency and resource management. A Technician, capable of repairing and upgrading equipment. Or a Medic, essential for healing wounds and keeping the group alive. This variety allows each player to find a role that suits them and to contribute uniquely to the team.
  • Fast and intense combat: Combat in Neon's Nightmare is fast and intense. No long waits between turns, every action counts, and the pace is sustained. You can perform tactical actions like covering an ally, taking an advantageous position, or launching a strategic charge. These options add depth to combat and allow players to plan and react in real-time to threats.

3. Facilitated Scenario Creation & Sandbox

Neon's Nightmare has been designed as a toolbox where each GM can pick and use what they want. There are tables for almost everything:

  • Background creation: Descriptions of bunkers where survivors live, and their leaders. The GM picks and creates their universe.
  • Background evolution: Tables to evolve the overall background, change the life in the bunkers between adventures, etc.
  • Scenario creation: The game is designed to minimize adventure preparation. Tables for generating missions, NPCs, objectives... Minute dungeon creation is planned. Each room is described in detail, with lists of monsters and traps ready to use. No need to search for ideas for hours, everything is at your fingertips.

Bosses add an extra challenge. Each dungeon can be populated with terrifying creatures and imposing bosses. These tough enemies push your players to their limits and make battles even more thrilling. Bosses are not just obstacles; they are key elements that leave a mark and spice up the adventure.
